Devotional Thought - What is Prayer?

What is Prayer?

Bible Reading: Luke 11: 1 - 13

Bible Text: Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” - Matthew 7:7

The subject of prayer continues to fascinate me.

We mere mortals are permitted, no we are invited, into the very throne room of Almighty God. Our invitation is given because of the work that Christ Jesus completed on the cross when He suffered and shed His blood as our sacrifice for sin. We can only accept God’s invitation to commune with Him if we have placed our faith in Christ Jesus.

The fact that we have the ability to communicate directly with Almighty God is astonishing. The fact that most Christians spend only a few seconds a day in prayer is appalling!

Prayer is not a liturgy that must be read. It is a communication for your heart to the heart of the Almighty. Christ gave us the simple steps of prayer when He said to ask, seek, and knock.

First ask for the need in your life to be met by God. Care enough to seek God’s answer as you commune with Him. Continue in prayer to the point of knocking, as it were, on Heaven’s door. Your “knocking” will not be a bother for the Almighty, but will be a sign of your desire to receive an answer to your petition.

Why not talk to the Almighty right now?

Don't pray when it rains if you don't pray when the sun shines. ~Satchel Paige
